Giving is living; Give others what you can!

Become happy by giving others what you can!
Understand the essence of life; Giving is living!

Once upon a time there was a Scholar. He was a wise man and well known to the King who would call him whenever he needed some advice. One day he was called on the King and sung a song praising the King. The King became happy and rewarded him with a pot full of gold coins. The Scholar also became happy and started to his village carrying the pot.

He had to walk through a dense forest. It would take about three hours of walk to reach his village. On the way there were some rest houses where he could take some rest. It was a single path surrounded by shrubs on both sides. He prayed God to bless him so that he could reach his home without any disturbance from wild animals or thieves. But after one hour walk, suddenly he was surrounded by four thieves. They picked the pot and other valuables from him and ran away.

The Scholar became upset and continued his journey empty handed. He thought that his wife would have become happy if he had given her those gold coins. But now he had nothing to give her. `I should complain about the thieves when I meet the King next time’ he thought. He felt so tired and needed some rest before continuing his journey and so, he was looking for the rest house nearby.

After some walk he found the rest house at a distance and he started to walk towards it. When going near the rest house, he could hear some loud voices of crying and there was some restlessness. He reached there and found a man was laid on the floor and other persons were crying around him. The Scholar asked them what had happened. One of them replied in between his crying that his friend was bitten by a snake and fainted and fell unconscious. He was dying and they were helpless to save him.

The Scholar could recognize them as the thieves who had picked up his pot of gold coins. But one of the thieves was in danger and so he had to act fast to save him. He mentioned the name of some herbals and ordered them to bring the herbals immediately. Then, with the herbals he prepared the medicine and made the unconscious man to drink that. After few moments he became alive and the other persons became happy. They thanked the Scholar for his timely help and felt sorry for their behavior of picking his pot.

Not only they returned the gold coins to the Scholar, they requested him to forgive them. The man who became alive, fell on his knees before the Scholar, and praised him for his kindness, to give treatment to an enemy without any vengeance. The Scholar replied that it was his duty to save a person who was in danger. Also he told him if he had not saved him, with the knowledge of medicine he had, God would not forgive him. "So with no indifference I will do my duty to all, because I know the essence of life; giving is living" he added.

The thieves had changed their mind and understand the meaning of life that only giving is living not picking everything from others. They were ashamed about the life they had lived and wanted to live a life of giving. They asked the Scholar to teach them the morals and requested him to accept them as his disciples. The Scholar happily accepted them as his disciples and taught them all the knowledge he had acquired. Because he understood that the fulfilled life means giving everything we can, to others.
